Technical functioning

How does a fire blanket work?

These fire blankets are made from heat-resistant materials that can withstand temperatures of up to 1300°C or even 1600°C. When the blanket is placed over a burning battery or device, it forms a protective barrier between the fire and its surroundings.
 

  • Smothering flames: The blanket restricts oxygen flow, slowing or extinguishing common fires.

  • Limits spread of fire and smoke: By isolating heat and smoke, it reduces the spread to surrounding objects.

  • Designed for Li-ion batteries: Lithium-ion batteries produce internal oxygen during ‘thermal runaway’, feeding the fire. The blanket helps manage this by absorbing heat and containing exploding battery cells within the covered area.

  • Reduces toxic fumes: Smoke is largely contained within the area under the blanket.

  • Buys time in emergencies: The blanket is designed to gain time until professional emergency services arrive with specialized extinguishing equipment.
